Trendy Tropical Christmas Trees

When we close our eyes we're surrounded by sand, palm trees, and the summer sun! If you're right there with us, maybe you don't want to spend the time (or money!) on traditional holiday decor. Maybe snowy scenes, red bows, and evergreens aren't for you. Or, maybe, you live in a studio apartment and can't find space for a Christmas tree. Whatever the reason, you're in luck because tropical, non traditional Christmas trees are becoming more popular!

If you already have a medium to large houseplant taking up residence in the corner of your home 11 months out of the year, chances are you have nowhere to move it during December. Why not decorate it with twinkle lights and colorful ornaments and gather your gifts under its funky leaves?

Opting for a non traditional Christmas tree has the added benefit of being a more eco-friendly option! In a time of over consumption and excessive waste, utilizing a plant you already own or picking out a funky tropical tree to act as your holiday decor year after year, saves your money and helps the planet! Artificial trees leave a huge carbon footprint and while real trees are better for the environment, one less tree being cut down is always a good thing!

Some our favorite "Tropical Christmas trees" pictured above are the ficus alii, cat palm, and ficus triangularis! These plants look very different and offer different benefits for anyone to enjoy. The ficus alii has long slender leaves and lots of space for your holiday lights! The cat palm offers a more tropical look and occasionally grows interesting berries near the base. The ficus triangularis' variegated leaves add a unique pop of color and offers many places to hang ornaments!

Norfolk island pine - Meeting Green houseplant

Looking for something with a little more holiday spirit? The Norfolk island pine keeps that traditional evergreen look with a bit of tropical flair!

The soft textured leaves feel reminiscent of a classic fraser fir, but work well as a unique houseplant throughout the year! These pines are true tropicals and thrive in bright, indirect light like most of your other tropical indoor plants.

Whether it's space, time, money, summer vibes, or the planet you're trying to save... consider opting for a trendy tropical christmas tree this holiday season!
